Photo & File Backup does one thing carefully: it holds copies of what you choose, and gives you a way to take them with you.
Pick photos, videos or documents already on your device through Apple’s own pickers. Photo & File Backup stores an independent copy — your originals stay exactly where they are.
Open any saved item to preview it, save it back to Photos, or export the file. Removed items wait in Vault Trash for 30 days before you delete them for good.
Export a password-encrypted backup package to Files or an external drive. Deleting the app deletes its local vault, so an independent copy is always in your hands.
A calm, focused vault built around Apple’s system frameworks — so it feels like part of your iPhone rather than a detour.
Browse a grid of everything you’ve saved, filter by kind, search by name or note, and star the items you come back to most. Files get their own list view with sizes and dates.
Require Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode before the vault opens. Nothing is shown until you authenticate.
Removed items are held for 30 days so a mis-tap is never final. Restore in a tap, or delete forever when you’re sure.
Every saved file carries a SHA-256 fingerprint. Run a check any time to confirm each copy still matches the original byte for byte.
Export a single encrypted .recoverybackup package, then import it later — duplicates are skipped automatically.
Save photos and videos back to your photo library, export documents through the share sheet, or select many items at once. Nothing is locked into a format only this app can read.
Rename items, attach a note you’ll thank yourself for later, preview with Quick Look, sort newest or oldest first, and turn haptics off if you prefer things quiet. Reduce Motion is respected throughout.
Backup packages are versioned and authenticated. Your password never leaves your device, and no key is ever stored for us to hold.
Your password is stretched with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256, 210,000 iterations and a fresh 16-byte random salt.
Files are encrypted in bounded 1 MB frames with AES-GCM, so memory stays flat no matter the size.
Every chunk is authenticated against its item and index, so frames cannot be swapped, reordered or replayed.
SHA-256 digests are recomputed on export and import. If anything fails, the whole operation is refused.
Local vault content is protected by iOS file protection while your device is locked. Encryption protects an exported backup package — keep your password safe, because there is no reset and no recovery path for a forgotten one.
The shortest privacy policy is the one where there is nothing to collect. Photo & File Backup has no server, so there is no inbox, no dashboard and no log with your name on it.
Nothing to register, nothing to leak.
No tracking SDKs, no usage profiles, no third-party identifiers.
Your vault lives on your device. Backups move only when you export them.
Photo & File Backup copies what you pick and never modifies or deletes the source.
No. Photo & File Backup can restore copies you saved to the vault, items still in Vault Trash, or an exported backup you created earlier. It cannot read Apple’s Recently Deleted storage and it cannot recover data that has already been permanently removed from your device.
Inside the app’s own storage on your iPhone, protected by iOS file protection. There is no server involved. That also means deleting the app deletes its local vault — which is why exporting an encrypted backup to Files or an external drive is worth doing.
The backup cannot be opened. Because there is no account and no key escrow, nobody — including us — can unlock it for you. Store the password in your password manager before you rely on the backup.
The vault itself works fully offline. The only time a connection matters is when Apple’s system picker needs to download an item that currently lives in iCloud rather than on your device.
Not as a paired Live Photo. A Live Photo is imported as the still image or the video representation you selected, and is stored as a regular file from then on.
It recomputes the SHA-256 digest of every stored file and compares it with the fingerprint recorded at import. That confirms the bytes are unchanged. It does not guarantee that a given document will open in every app, and it is not a substitute for keeping an independent backup.
Tell us what you expected to happen and what happened instead — that alone fixes most things faster than anything else.
Photo & File Backup is an iPhone app. Nothing on this page is stored or sent anywhere — this site has no forms and no tracking.
